Class Liaison
Responsibilities include: matching classroom parents with jobs, ensuring that all jobs are filled and all families are participating, acting as a resource for parents with questions or concerns, relaying parent concerns to the teacher and/or VP of Liaisons, acting as the communication conduit for classroom and teacher needs, as well as school wide events and needs, attending monthly PTO meetings (optional but encouraged)
Class Fundraising Representative
Acts as the Liaison between Cabrillo Fundraising efforts and class parents. Responsible for engaging with parents and obtaining volunteers for fundraising activities. Other responsibilities include soliciting donations for auction baskets or events.
Class Scheduler
Works closely with classroom teacher and liaison to schedule classroom volunteers. Produces monthly volunteer schedule for dissemination to the teacher and families.
Class Field Trip Coordinator
Assists classroom teacher in arranging field trips. Also arranges for drivers (names of potential drivers provided by the class liaison), and keeps track of required driver paperwork.
Class Materials Prep
Assists classroom teacher with gathering items for special projects. Also assists in prepping for cooking projects, art projects, etc.
Baker
Provides baked goods (either homemade or store-bought) for school fundraisers and events, including the Bake Sale at the Scholastic Book Fair.
Party/Event Coordinator
Works with teacher in planning classroom parties. Contacts families for food and other supplies, and arranges party workers. Assist with school events as needed by fundraising committee.

 

VOLUNTEER AT SCHOOL 

Note: Since these activities involve working with students directly, most of them require fingerprinting and a background check. 

Class Field Trip Driver
Classes usually take about 5 field trips per year. Drivers must carry a specific limit of Liability Insurance, and must be fingerprinted. Detailed information will be provided by the Field Trip Coordinator prior to the first trip.
Class Aide
Assists teacher for a few hours once a week or every other week. All parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer in the classroom a few hours sometime during the year. Requires fingerprinting and background check.
Party/Event Worker
Helps with set up, serving and clean-up of classroom parties. Assist with school events as needed by fundraising committee.
Fundraising committee member (school wide)
Assists with planning and helping with school wide events, i.e. Auction, Jamba Juice sales, etc.
Lost and Found Organizer
Work with Front office organizing lost items. Donate unclaimed items to local charities at the end of the year
Creative Arts Volunteer (PE, Music, Art)
Curriculum and training is provided. No professional experience is required. Orientations are held for each discipline prior to the beginning of classes. Classes are held on a scheduled day and time for each grade, once every week. Fingerprinting and background check required.
Cabrillo Track & Field/Jr. Olympics Volunteer Volunteers prepare students for track and field events sponsored by Pacifica PB&R. Students compete against other Pacifica schools. Springtime event.
Green Team Member
Interested in cleaning up and beautifying our school grounds? Volunteers help clean up trash, maintain and trim plants in various areas to improve aesthetics and safety of the school campus.
Library Aide
Assists with shelving and checking out books. No library experience is necessary. 2 hour shifts once a week or every other week. Library Chairperson provides orientation at the beginning of the school year.
Band Booster/Volunteer
Works with the middle school band teacher to coordinate band events and fundraisers, including driving band students to and from performances (usually at other local schools), and helping with set-up and clean-up for band concerts.  
Book Fair Volunteer
Volunteers with book sales at Scholastic Book Fair (2x per year)

OTHER VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Parent Council Representative
Pacifica School District position. Attends meetings at the district office representing Cabrillo School, discussing district goals, needs and resources. Plans the Elna Flynn Outstanding Volunteer Award dinner which serves as peer recognition of outstanding volunteer activities within the Pacifica School District. Works directly with district coordinating this yearly event.
Pacifica Education Foundation Ambassador
Serves as a liaison between Cabrillo and the Pacifica Education Foundation (PEF), a volunteer-run nonprofit that raises money for programs at all of the K-8 schools in the Pacifica School District.  Attends monthly PEF meetings if possible, promotes PEF events (including PEF Donation Days in the spring), and coordinates volunteers for PEF fundraisers.

Special Education Parent Advisory Committee Liaison
Represents Cabrillo at the four annual meetings of this committee.
Literacy Committee
Work with a group of parents and teachers who meet with Cabrillo librarian once a month to plan events to promote literacy. Events include: Read-a-thon, the Book Fair, poetry events, and Reading Relay.
